About Us
Brief history of Dharmapala Vidyalaya and its alumni association
Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya is a leading Buddhist mixed school in Sri Lanka, founded in 1942 by the visionary educationist and philanthropist P. De S. Kularatne. The school is named after Anagarika Dharmapala, a pioneer of the Buddhist revival movement in the country. Spanning across 18 acres of land, Dharmapala Vidyalaya has been a haven for hundreds of thousands of students across generations. It has a proud history of producing eminent scholars, professionals, military personnel, sportsmen, artists, and leaders who have contributed to the social, cultural, and national development of Sri Lanka.
The Dharmapala Vidyalaya Past Pupils’ Association of Victoria (DVPPAV) is a non-profit organisation established in 2014 by a group of former students of Dharmapala Vidyalaya who are now living in Victoria, Australia. The main objectives of the DVPPAV are to foster and maintain the bonds of friendship and fellowship among the past pupils of Dharmapala Vidyalaya, to support the welfare and development of the school and its current students, and to maintain the values and traditions of Dharmapala Vidyalaya and the Sri Lankan community.
As a past pupil association, the DVPPAV is committed to preserving and promoting the spirit of Dharmapala Vidyalaya among its members and the wider community. The DVPPAV organises various events and activities throughout the year, such as social gatherings, cultural programs, and charity drives, to celebrate the achievements and memories of Dharmapala Vidyalaya and to support its ongoing progress and excellence. The DVPPAV also maintains close ties with other past pupil associations of Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Sri Lanka and around the world and participates in joint initiatives and exchanges.
The DVPPAV welcomes all past pupils of Dharmapala Vidyalaya who are residing in Victoria, Australia, to join its network and share the camaraderie and goodwill that characterise the Palian family.
